Health Informatics & Policy Research Lab
We study how policy influences health information systems and how those systems in turn can be designed, configured, and used to improve care quality.
We specialize in the use of novel datasets like EHR audit log data and EHR use metadata to capture difficult-to-measure constructs, like teamwork, at scale and without special effort.
We have expertise in quasi-experimental study design and retrospective evaluation to arrive at credible, rigorous estimates of the impact of health IT tools, workflows, and configurations on key care delivery outcomes.

| We partner with health systems to evaluate the impact of EHR changes and other programs on key outcomes. | We analyze the impact and effectiveness of federal, state, and local policies on health IT system configuration and use. | We leverage the “digital exhaust” generated by clinicians’ use of EHRs to construct novel measures and characterize use. |
